I don't get all the hate this app gets in the comments... It's a great and easy way to support the causes we care about and we're thrilled to be part of this program. The app itself has great features and options for how to display our contributions on our site. My only request would be a more condensed view of the impact data as it takes up too much vertical space, which is the only reason we're not making this visible right now.

We also love this app! Super easy way for us to offset our carbon impact through shipping and to provide customers with peace of mind when ordering from all over the country. We've used Planet to send packages over 1,732,585 km, since installation. Very affordable, with a simple setup and flexibility in terms of design and communication. Very disappointing and confusing experience.
Lack of transparency in pricing – The app charges based on estimated emissions, but the logic is completely unclear. When tracking information is not available (which is always the case at checkout), they multiply the emissions estimate by 3. Whether it's the merchant or the customer paying, almost every order gets overcharged. On top of that, I have no idea where the money is actually going – there’s no clear breakdown or follow-up to show how carbon removal is being funded.
Unfair in both billing modes – In “Community” mode, customers are charged right when they place the order — but there's never a tracking number at that point, so they are always paying 3x the estimated emissions. In the “Merchant” mode, it’s the same problem: as a seller, we can't generate a tracking number at the moment of purchase, yet we get billed for the 3x inflated estimate too.
This app needs to be far more transparent and fair in how it calculates and communicates charges. Until then, I can't recommend it to other businesses.
We're sorry you found the experience confusing—transparency in pricing and impact is important to us. A few clarifications:
- When tracking info isn’t available, we estimate emissions using a ~2.5x multiplier on the straight-line (“as the crow flies”) distance. This helps account for real-world shipping routes, and we set this number after consulting a reputable third party.
- In Community mode, the fee is a flat amount you set, so there’s no multiplier or uncertainty.
- 100% of funds go directly to carbon removal projects—Shopify doesn’t take a cut.
- You can see all the companies that have received funding on the Planet About page in your Shopify admin. Watch your inbox soon for updates on new projects getting support!
- We’re working on new features and clearer documentation to improve transparency.

There is no support or a way to download results. Just a dash board with an image. Even when contacting shopify support they had no idea how to get the data to me. I will be moving to a better hosted site like green spark.
But you CAN display your results! In fact, the Planet widget and badge are designed to showcase store-level data. You can, for example, show how many kilos of carbon your brand has removed, alongside relevant equivalencies (e.g., "X number of miles driven in a gas-powered car").
You can also display the specific carbon removal innovations that you fund via Planet, such as reforestation, direct air capture, and the other solutions available to Planet users. We'd be happy to unpack any of these features – feel free to write to planet at shopify (dot) com if there are specific questions we can answer. Thanks again!

I use many apps on my shopify store and this one was hands down the WORST! It charged my customers .50 cents over and over again without their consent. One customer said 8 times! Now I have to refund hundreds of these charges, which of course looks suspect making my business appear unreliable.
So if you want to lose customer faith and give yourself a massive headache then by all means...
UPDATE: I haven’t received any help on this matter, yet my customers are still being charged without their consent. This app being uninstalled for days and it’s still happening. They just told me to refund everyone and they’ll let the developers know the issue. Horrible and stressful experience with no accountability or resolutions.
We investigated this and discovered that the charges were not generated by Planet, but instead by attempted fraud: Someone was using your carbon-neutral shipping "product" to try and generate chargebacks. All charges were using the same name but different credit card numbers. (We assume they just picked a cheap item that didn’t need shipping, and then chose the "Support Carbon Removal" item, which is $0.50.) These charges triggered our fraud detection and were flagged in your admin. We would be happy to send you a screenshot of the transactions – please reach out to planet at shopify dot com if that would be helpful.
This program is terrible. I was looking for something that would help us showcase our work. They expect you to pay $300.00 a month to be carbon-neutral.
Response: Their response is misleading. I never said the $300 was a set price. It is based on how much you ship and ours works out to $300-600 per month. That amount is ridiculous. They do not take into account the things we actually do ourselves to reduce our carbon footprint, and there is nowhere for us to notate that information (we do a lot). There is no reason we should HAVE to pay someone else to offset our carbon neutrality. There is an option to have the customer pay 50 cents, but if you choose that option, then you don't get the badge - and it looks to the customer as though you are putting it all on them and not sharing in the program. It's a great idea, but the execution of the program is poor.
This isn't accurate. The "Community" subscription enables customers to fund carbon-neutral shipping instead of merchants, which means 100% of funding comes from buyers. If merchants want to assign a sliver of their revenue to carbon-neutral shipping, then charges are based on factors like order volume, package weight, etc. There is definitely no flat charge of $300. Please feel free to reach out to planet at shopify dot com if we can help you get configured. Thanks for reviewing the app.

Moved from Ecologi to this as it appeared native, and better value, but they are are very sneaky in how they word the billing and our bill per shipment is crazily excessive. They're trying to claim we owe over $1000 although we set up a cap. This is ridiculous and if they try to action we will need to go to court or chargeback.
### Edit: the package size, weight and dimensions aren't known by Planet as they are not entered in our backend. If you are using product dimensions, for rugs, which are sent rolled, you are massively over-pricing. We are being charged at a rate of $10 per item. Initial pricing displayed was $0.35 per item. The cap is confusing as although we have not been charged over this per month it shows we owe x8 the total monthly cap.
We're sorry that you had a bad experience with Planet. Regarding the bill – you will never be charged more than your billing cap for any billing cycle. When it comes to your per-shipment costs, the weight of products is one of the drivers of shipping emissions. Shipping heavy products like rugs can generate above-average emissions. If you'd like to continue offering carbon-neutral shipping as an option, you can select a subscription option that enables your customers to choose carbon-neutral shipping on any order.
Your “more info” button doesn’t work on the Empire Shopify Theme. Please advise

Video only suitable for US users. Shows $ as currency and would be better for us in £ with British speaker and phrases.
